Midlands Chapter Launches Grant and Scholarship Program

Posted on by Lynn Yenkey

The Midlands Chapter announces a new grant and scholarship opportunity to support the SCNPS mission to expand native plant education, protection, and restoration in our region. Grants of up to $2000 can support local neighborhoods, student groups, schools, churches, or nonprofits interested in projects that support the SCNPS mission. Scholarships up to $200 support individuals seeking training or education, such as the South Carolina Native Plant Certificate, naturalist courses, or conferences.

We encourage grant applicants to think broadly about how to include South Carolina native plants in their landscapes, and creatively about how to educate friends, neighbors and affinity groups.

The Chapter held its first plant sale in October 2021 to expand access to native plants in the Midlands and begin raising funds to support community projects. The enthusiastic response spurred the Chapter to sponsor a spring and fall sale each year. Interest in native plants is strong and growing! The result is funding sufficient to offer this program. The Midlands Board looks forward to meeting the first applicants.
