Books for children featuring native plants are few and far between. Freelance writer Abby Moore Keith, illustrator Carissa Grace Bowser and publisher Lib Ramos have created a beautiful addition to this genre featuring the native flora, fauna and fungi of upstate South Carolina. In this simple rhyming alphabet book, children are introduced to elements of the natural world. The plants included are dogwood (Cornus florida), goldenrod (Solidago ), hearts-a-bustin’ (Euonymus americanus), jewelweed (Impatiens capensis), oak (Quercus spp.), pink lady’s slipper (Cypripedium acaule), rosebay rhododendron (Rhododendron maximum) and
viburnum (Viburnum spp.).

The book is ready to be published, but the creators need help to fund the project. To this end, they have created a Kickstarter campaign, and you can help by pledging and pre-ordering the book. They need to raise $7,300 by May 30 and are well over halfway there. This book is perfectly sized for young hands at 8.5” x 8.5,” and its durable hardcover makes it an excellent present for the target audience of 3-7-year-olds (or their parents, grandparents or other doting relatives or friends).
