Help Protect Dwarf-flower Heartleaf – Action Needed This Tuesday, May 6

Posted on by Jesse Freeman (Upstate)

We’ve just learned that the Spartanburg County Planning Commission will meet this Tuesday, May 6, to consider a new application to build the RV park along Goldmine Creek—right in the same critical habitat where the rare dwarf-flower heartleaf (Hexastylis naniflora) grows.

Although the developers have modified their application to include public water and bathrooms (the issues we previously won in Circuit Court), the core threat remains. The revised plan still proposes construction in sensitive habitat and relies on the same septic system that the DHEC Board already rejected—an issue we have now appealed to the SC Court of Appeals.

We know it’s short notice, but your presence can make a difference.

Meeting Details:

    • Date: Tuesday, May 6

    • Time: 4:30 PM

    • Location: County Council Chambers
      366 North Church Street
      Spartanburg, SC

SCNPS will submit a formal letter of opposition, but showing up in person is an important way to demonstrate public concern.

Please share this with others who care about protecting native plants and habitats.
