Volunteer Information
Volunteer Opportunities for the Spring Sale
Load and Transport Team
Dates: Friday, April 11 and/or Saturday, April 12
- Load and unload plants and equipment in and out of trucks from the UNN Greenhouse and Storage Unit to Conestee Park on Friday, then reverse the process on Saturday. Volunteers should have a “strong” back. Bring your truck, trailer, or SUV if you can.
Cashier Team
Date: Saturday, April 12
- Cashiers: Work at the checkout table, adding subtotals for a grand total on customer tickets, receiving payment (cash, check, credit/debit cards). Must be comfortable with calculators, card readers, and making change—retail experience helpful. Training will be provided.
- Invoicers: Work at the checkout table, pulling, sorting, and counting price stakes, filling out invoices, and calculating subtotals. Must be familiar with calculators and comfortable with numbers. Training provided.
Training hour required the week prior to the sale.
Front Entrance Team
Date: Saturday, April 12
- Work at Entrance Table and Line Management. Greet customers at entry, hand out plant lists. Use a clicker to count customers entering the gate. Manage customer lines during sale and direct customers to holding, checkout, and exits. Answer questions and explain the holding and checkout process. Direct customers to plant experts and guest vendors. Training will be provided.
Site Management
Dates: Friday – Saturday, April 11-12
- Friday: Assist with setting up plants according to the site map, setting up canopies, tables, and chairs.
- Saturday: Assist with tear down and clean-up of the site.
Safety and Traffic Team
Dates: Friday – Saturday, April 11-12
- Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that traffic is directed and managed safely for pick-up.
Hospitality/Volunteer Welcome Tables
Dates: Friday – Saturday, April 11-12
- Provide information and refreshments for volunteers. Set-up water cooler with ice for everyone and keep table neat and stocked. Recruit volunteers for making/buying snacks for volunteers.
Greenhouse Team
Dates: Friday, April 11
- Assist in moving plants at the nursery and preparing them for loading onto vehicles for transport to the sale site. Volunteers should be prepared for physical work and careful handling of plants.
Holding and Loading Team
Dates: Saturday, April 12
- Hold purchased plants until customers are ready and assist in loading them into vehicles. Volunteers should be comfortable with physical work and customer interaction.
Inventory Team (Post-Sale)
Dates: Saturday, April 12
- Assist with post-sale inventory by counting and organizing plants after the sale.
Volunteer Locations for the Spring Sale
Volunteer activities will take place at these locations
- Upstate Native Nursery (UNN): at 180 Lakewood Dr., Mauldin, SC 29667
- SCNPS storage unit: Midgard Self Storage, 935 Butler Rd, Greenville, SC, 29607
- Stadium at Conestee Park: 840 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC, 29607 (the baseball stadium; a 3-minute drive south of I-85 exit to Mauldin Rd)
