A developer has proposed building a hotel on Paris Mountain along Altamont Road. This proposal is not allowed under Greenville County’s current zoning and has been opposed by many conservation groups, Paris Mountain residents, and people across the county.
But the project could still move forward if the Travelers Rest City Council votes to annex and rezone the property.
That proposal will be considered at a meeting of the Travelers Rest Planning Commission on Thursday, April 24 at 6:00 PM. A strong in-person turnout in opposition to this proposal is essential.
Thursday’s Meeting – April 24, 2025 at 6:00 PM
Location: Travelers Rest City Hall, 125 Trailblazer Dr., Travelers Rest
Over 12,000 people have signed a petition opposing the annexation and rezoning. The proposed development would:
- Harm the mountain forest and wildlife
- Threaten Reedy River headwaters
- Bring additional traffic to Altamont Road
- Threaten additional development on the mountain
- Mark the viewshed of the mountain
There will be a chance to speak at the meeting—public comments are limited to 3 minutes per person.
Speakers are encouraged to arrive early, coordinate with others, and avoid repeating the same points, as overlapping comments will not be allowed.
