On January 20, Dan Whitten will lead a hike on the Silver Steps Falls (aka Dargans Cascade) Trail, a section of the Jones Gap Trail in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Highlights will include Yellow Birch (Betula alleghaniensis) and Mountain Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra acuminata).

The trail, accessed from a parking lot a short distance from Caesars Head State Park, is 2.3 miles in and back (4.6 roundtrip) and the difficulty is rated moderate. Depending on the weather, there may be wet areas to cross.

This event will be limited to the first 10 registrants, who will meet at 9:30 am at the intersection of SC11 and US 276 as it starts up Caesar’s Head SP and carpool to the trailhead. The hike starts at 10 am. There will (as always!) be a waiver to sign. Bring water, lunch, camera and weather-appropriate clothing. Also, bring your park pass or $3 entrance fee.
