Cheryl Brown: “Garden Scale Landscape Design with Natives

On April 15th, we welcome Cheryl Brown, PLA, ASLA, a licensed landscape architect and co-owner of Earth Design, for a discussion on designing home-scale landscapes that support native habitats. Cheryl will walk us through the essential steps of planning an outdoor space with a strong focus on habitat creation. She’ll share her go-to native plant selections for different sun, shade, and moisture conditions, as well as insights into local plant availability.

With years of experience in environmental design and place-making, Cheryl blends ecological function with aesthetics, incorporating permaculture principles and innovative material reuse. Whether you’re starting fresh or refining an existing landscape, this talk will provide practical strategies to help you cultivate a thriving, sustainable garden with native plants.

Cheryl Brown

PLA, ASLA | Licensed Landscape Architect & Co-owner, Earth Design

Cheryl Brown has been practicing landscape architecture since 2008, specializing in environmental design and place-making. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Clemson University and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.

As co-owner of Earth Design, Cheryl integrates native plantings into her work, balancing structured hardscapes with organic landscapes. Her projects often incorporate edible and medicinal gardens, as well as innovative approaches to material reuse. Cheryl believes every site and client is unique, and she emphasizes an inclusive design process to create landscapes that are both functional and ecologically rich.
