Upstate Chapter: Greetings and Happenings
Greetings to all native plant enthusiasts and chapter members!
I’m excited to reconnect with you and share some important news. I am currently serving as the interim President of the Upstate Chapter while we continue the search for a permanent leader. I’d also like to take a moment to recognize Pam Barbour for her outstanding leadership during her tenure. Pam’s contributions—upgrading our organizational structure, integrating new technologies, building strong teams, and leading successful plant sales and symposiums—have been invaluable. Thank you, Pam!
Our chapter is vibrant and thriving, offering leadership in conservation, educational programming, outreach, and a range of science-based activities including field trips and inventories. With a community of over 500 passionate members, we continue to support initiatives such as our greenhouse operations, plant sales, and public outreach. Our monthly programs are a fantastic resource for anyone looking to explore the scientific connections within our natural world while enjoying meaningful fellowship.
In addition to serving as interim president, I will continue my role as the State Advocacy Chair, addressing important issues that affect our region. My goal during this transitional period is to further grow engagement and empower our members to take on leadership roles within the organization. We are the voice for native plants—championing those that cannot speak for themselves—and I invite you to join us in our mission to promote, restore, and educate about these essential natural treasures.
Go, Natives!
Rick Huffman
