Resources for Learning about the SC Legislature and Staying Informed
If you’re not familiar with how the legislative process works in South Carolina, or you need a refresher, don’t sweat it! Our advocacy team recommends these four resources:
· This two-page summary of how it all works, published by the League of Women Voters, does a great job of explaining the basics of our state’s legislature.
· If you’re looking for even more information, this booklet written by the Clerk for the South Carolina House of Representatives goes into much more detail, including definitions of common legislative terms and a full flowchart of how a bill becomes an act.
· The resource that may be the most helpful during a legislative session is the South Carolina Legislature’s website, where you can review bills, read upcoming committee agendas, learn more about the legislators that represent you, and find contact information for each and every legislative member.
· From the SC Legislature website, you can download the SC Legislature mobile app for iOS and Android devices to access all those resources and set up notifications on topics of interest.
