Spring into adventure with us on April 13, 2024, for a sensational hike led by the ever-enthusiastic Dan Whitten through the stunning Stevens Creek Heritage Preserve. Nestled in the picturesque counties of McCormick and Edgefield, this trailblazing expedition promises a day filled with natural wonders and botanical beauties.

We’re kicking things off with a meet-up for ride-sharing at the Blue Ocean restaurant – your gateway to adventure awaits just off I-26E at Exit 52, where US 56 meets the interstate. Look for us at 10:00 am; we’ll be the group buzzing with excitement, ready to carpool to the preserve. Just exit, take a left to cross over, and you’ll spot us on the left, eager and ready to explore.

Our journey? A delightful spoon loop hike spanning about 3.5 miles, peppered with the season’s first blooms. Imagine wandering through nature’s own gallery, with Shooting Stars (if we are lucky), Spring-beauty, a spectrum of Trillium species, False Rue Anemone, and more showcasing their splendor. And just so we’re clear, this is the Heritage Preserve extravaganza – a treasure trove distinct from the Native Plant Society site upstream. Though only 20 minutes apart, they’re worlds apart in experience!

Space is as limited as the bloom season – only 15 spots! To grab yours, shoot an email to upstatefieldtrips@scnps.org and don’t forget to include your phone number. We’re all about the details, so directions and more will follow once you’re in.

Essentials for the Day:

Meet: Blue Ocean restaurant at I-26E Exit 52, 10:00 am for ride-sharing
Hike: 3.5 miles of pure botanical bliss at Stevens Creek Heritage Preserve
See: A floral parade featuring Shooting Stars(maybe), Spring-beauty, and Trilliums galore
Bring: Water, lunch, attire that laughs in the face of weather whims, and your trusty camera

This is your call to step into spring with a day of discovery and camaraderie. Don’t wait – these spots will vanish faster than dewdrops in the sun. Let’s make a memory this April that you won’t forget!
