Celebrate South Carolina Native Plant Week

Posted on by (Upstate Publicity)

Five easy ways to honor and support the plants that make our state unique

The third week of October is officially South Carolina Native Plant Week — a time to celebrate the native plants that define our landscapes and support South Carolina’s incredible biodiversity.

Following the state resolution recognizing the value of native plants, this week offers a perfect chance to turn that recognition into action.

Here are five simple ways you can celebrate with us:

1. Plant a native.
Replace one yard plant with a native species — even a small change helps.

2. Look for natives in the wild.
Visit a local trail, preserve, or natural area and take time to notice and appreciate native plants in their natural habitats.

3. Share your favorites.
Post a photo of your favorite native plant from your neighborhood or nature using #SCNativePlantWeek — or send it to us, and we’ll share it for you.

4. Volunteer.
The SCNPS always has projects, events and activities that need extra hands. Contact your local chapter to see how you can help make a difference for native plants.

5. Spread the word.
Tell a friend or neighbor why native plants matter — awareness grows change and strengthens advocacy in your community.

However you choose to celebrate, each action adds up — helping native plants flourish across South Carolina’s landscapes.
