The name SCNPS Champions is inspired by South Carolina’s remarkable Champion Trees—exceptional trees recognized for their size, age, beauty, and ecological significance. South Carolina is home to the highest concentration of Champion Trees in North America, with an extraordinary collection found within Congaree National Park.
Just as these extraordinary trees stand as enduring symbols of strength, resilience, and stewardship, SCNPS Champions represents the people who choose to stand up for South Carolina’s natural heritage. Our Champions provide the steady, reliable support that allows the South Carolina Native Plant Society to protect native plants, preserve natural habitats, advance conservation, and inspire a deeper appreciation for the landscapes that make our state unique.
