Wild Comfrey from Loraine Lakich, SC

Posted on |

I found a group of these plants while hiking the Raven Rock trail in Lake Keowee State Park ,SC. They were in partial shade on a damp hillside along a cove of the lake. They were just beginning to bloom on the date of 4/13/2017.Can you identify? Thank you

Hi Loraine,

your wildflower is hound’s tongue, Cynoglossum virginianum, also called wild comfrey. It is not the same as the garden plant known as comfrey, but it is related to it.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
