Salvia lyrata from David, South Carolina

Posted on |

Appears to be a perennial growing on the ecotone between a swamp (Four Hole Swamp, Orangeburg County, SC) and the nearby hill. It’s about 8-inches tall. It has me confused, can you help me out? Thanks, David

Hi David,

this is Salvia lyrata, the lyre-leaved sage.  Fairly common native wildflower in the mint family that likes disturbed areas and sunny spots.  Very nice photo!

Sincerely,
