Podocarpus macrophyllus from Claude in SC

Posted on |

It looks like someone tried to cut it down at one point but it has grown back. It has very thin smooth surfaced leaves (front and back) and no serration on the edges. It has green stems (except for near main trunk which is woody). Prominent Vein down the middle of the leaf but smaller veins are not visible.

Hi Claude,

this is a non-native, often cultivated evergreen called Podocarpus macrophyllus, the Japanese Yew. A nice landscape plant.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Ph.D., Botanist, SCNPS
