Beautiful long leaf bush w/ pinkish red blooms. Cut it back 1 year ago. Seriously ignored and over grown. Cut it back to 3 plus ft. blooming very slow. Name, care, food? Grows at my beach house. Thank you for this beautiful flower
Hi David,
yes, it is a beautiful shrub, called oleander, Nerium oleander. But be careful, the entire plant is considered to be poisonous so don’t eat it! Avoid the milky sap also. However, growing it should be just fine as long as you know its properties. It is cold sensitive and is hurt by frost and not native. It thrives in hot weather. Some fertilizer, such as compost or Miracle Grow should make it grow faster, but with the hot weather and water it should grow quite quickly.
I apologize for the delay in my reply. I had software issues that only now have been fixed. Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
