The plant is about 12 to 14 inches tall (with blooms) and is growing under pine trees in light shade in Aiken, SC, most likely in sandy soil. I see many smaller plants spread over the area, but not all are blooming.
Hi Nancy,
your plant is one of the lupines, Lupinus diffusus, a species in the bean family with single-bladed leaves fairly common especially in the sandhills. A very attractive native plant.
I apologize for the delay in my reply. I had software issues that only now have been fixed. Thank you for your patience.
Sincerely,
