Heliotropium amplexicaule from Kelly, SC

This perennial plant appeared in my yard a few years ago. I saw it along the Swamp Rabbit Trail near Travelers Rest today. Light purple flowers that bloom most of the summer and grow in a variety of soils…clay where it first appeared, garden soil where I moved some of it and fair soil in a pot. Gets taller so it’s just starting here. Thanking you in advance.

Hi Kelly,

this is the summer heliotrope, Heliotropium amplexicaule, a flower native to South America.  You can find out more about it here: https://gobotany.nativeplanttrust.org/species/heliotropium/amplexicaule/
