Common nipplewort ? from Lisa SC

This is in and next to my garden. Is it edible ? Is a native ? There is a chance its a Asian green I may have planted that reseeded maybe ..need to eat it or rip it out of growing area if not Thanks

Hi Lisa,

while I’m not positive, this looks like the common nipplewort, Lapsana communis.  It is an introduced weed.  I suggest that you send some more images once it is in full flower so that I can be more certain.   The flowers would look a bit like small dandelion flowers if it is that.  I think there is a resinous aroma to the plant as well.  It is not at all common in South Carolina.
