I am curious about a particular bush that is common around the perimeter of my property in central South Carolina. The plants on my land grow up to a height of around 5-6 feet and have similar characteristics to a blueberry including small berries. I initially thought the plant was a Farkleberry but the leaf structure looks slightly different than the images I have viewed.
I appreciate any information you might have. I am not sure if this is a type of wild blueberry or just a variety of Farkleberry plant. I am very curious about it as there a lots of them around my home.
Thank you for your assistance. I will be glad to provide more information if you need it.
Hi Ashley,
your shrub is one of the high bush blueberries, and most likely Vaccinium corymbosum. Tasty.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
