Our Favorite Native Plant Summer Camp

The Cullowhee Native Plant Conference, hosted by Western Carolina University in the beautiful mountains of neighboring North Carolina, is THE regional annual conference focusing on native plants. Held annually each summer for nearly 40 years,  it draws together a wonderful mix of people – enthusiasts, botanists, growers, educators, and more. It is three days of field trips, lectures, workshops, networking opportunities, and maybe even a little entertainment.

SCNPS is a proud sponsor of the Cullowhee Conference, and several chapters also support students/young professionals/educators in a scholarship program that helps bring in new people to the world of natives plants.

Registration usually opens around April 1. Packages vary by length, and can also include food and beverage as well as campus housing. Visit the Cullowhee Native Plant Conference website and find them on Facebook for an easy way to get updates and other great info.

July is an excellent time to head to the mountains, so make plans to attend the next Cullowhee Native Plant Conference. Be prepared to learn a lot about native plants and meet with plenty of friendly, interesting and like-minded folks! See you there!
