Zephyranthes atamasco from Graham, South Carolina

Posted on |

Hello Dr. Steven R. Hill thank you for helping me Identify this flowers that are growing wild in the woods in my backyard. It’s beautiful and looks like a bulb of some sort. I’ve lived here for 10 years and I’ve never seen these before. Thanks

Hi Graham,

this is  very nice wildflower called the Atamasco lily, Zephyranthes atamasco. It does well in shaded wet low woods. It is native to the southeastern United States. You are lucky to have it!

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
