Venus’-looking-glass from Mary in SC

Posted on |

Is this a relative to or a type of salvia, grown in dry, sandy soil? Notice the bees like it.

Hi Mary,

this is Venus’-looking-glass, Triodanis perfoliata, though I guess it could be Triodanis biflora instead – they are very similar but have the same common name.  Fairly common native. It is in the bluebell family, Campanulaceae. Not at all related to sage or the mint family.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Ph.D. Botanist, SCNPS
