This is a roundish plant that is growing in clay soil near roots of a pine tree. The texture is squishy- similar to a mushroom. They have no stems and I am finding them partially below ground/ sticking out of the soil. The color is brown- dark orange.

I’m sorry, I know almost nothing about fungi. You need a mycologist, not a botanist. There are some fungus identification groups on the Internet.
