Couldn’t get detailed pic. Growing about 4 feet from bank in Broad River in Gaffney. Straight up from riverbed, not an area that is ever not submerged. No more in a half mile in either direction, I looked. As for scale, I’d say the flower itself was about 4 or 5 in in diameter with the stem going down 11/2 to 2 feet to river bottom. Stunning.

I have no idea what that is floating in the river. My best guess is that it is a fungus attached to a branch, possibly a willow branch, but I cannot be certain of that either. It has no structure that I can interpret as a flower.
