An uncommon Liatris from Mary, SC

Posted on |

What is this 5-petaled tiny flower growing in clusters on a long stem in dry, sandy soil?

Hi Mary,

I don’t think I’ve seen this one in the wild. I would call it Liatris secunda, one of the Blazing stars, this one found almost exclusively in the sandhills and inner coastal plain. Very nice picture, as usual! Another member of the Asteraceae.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Ph.D., Botanist, SCNPS
