Symphyotrichum patens from Mary, SC

Posted on |

Is this flower in the wild aster family, grown in dry, sandy soil (taken today…10/31)?

Hi Mary,

yes this is one of the native blue asters, this one is Symphyotrichum patens, formerly called Aster patens. One of our fine fall-blooming species.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven R. Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
