Photographed on July 13, growing in sand-clay in mostly sun along a dirt road, passing through an SC Piedmont pine forest. I’m also attaching photos of the leaves, stems, and entire plant.

your plant is Hypericum punctatum, St. John’s-wort. It is rather common along roadsides.
