Senecio aureus from Meg in SC

Posted on |

Found hiking on our property in Northern Greenville County about 10 days ago – on an open trail maybe elevation around 1400 ft. On a southern slope – not too near any trees or other plants.

Hi Meg,

this is one of the golden ragworts, Senecio aureus. A nice native Spring flower. You can find out more about it here: https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/all/senecio-aureus/

Some place it in the genus Packera now.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
