A fellow beekeeper from SC asked me what this flower was. Since, I am not from SC and can’t find something similar in database, I thought to ask for some assistance. I hope there is enough detail. The beekeeper is calling it Ragweed, but to me it’s not.
Bill,
no, it is not ragweed, it is a commonly planted legume called sericea lespedeza, Lespedeza cuneata. I would suspect that it is a good honey plant, as it is related to clover somewhat. It is often planted to prevent erosion, and is quite common now.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steven R. Hill, Botanist SCNPS
