Rumex from Peter in SC

Growing around our mailbox. Is this a convolvulus, and if so what type?

Peter,

this is a sorrel, Rumex hastatulus, if it is an annual with a taproot, or the related Rumex acetosella, which has interconnecting rhizomes and forms patches.  The leaves are sour, and edible in small amounts.  It is not related to morning glories, Convolvulus, but is related to Rhubarb, dock, and smartweed [Polygonaceae].
