A red buckeye from Helen in Louisiana

Posted on |

This plant grew in my yard this spring in Zachary, LA. It started growing about six weeks ago and has reach the height you see in the picture. It bloomed a cluster of flowers about a week ago. I wish I could add more info, however I can not.

Hi Helen,

you have a nice young tree of the red buckeye, Aesculus pavia.  They usually do not get very tall, though there are exceptions.  Most are well under 10 feet at maturity.  It is an attractive native with colorful showy flowers that are usually visited by hummingbirds, as well as interesting and attractive but inedible seeds.

Sincerely,
