Raphiolepis from Debbie south carolina

Posted on |

Brother bought a house and these shrubs are in front yard. I was thinkin boxwood of some sort…?

Hi Debbie,

no, not a boxwood.   It is another evergreen shrub called Raphiolepis indica, the Indian hawthorn, a very popular shrub planted mostly for its nice flowers, produced awhile ago judging by the young fruits. It is in the rose family, and not too far distantly related to trees such as hawthorns and firethorn. You can find more about it there: http://www.onlineplantguide.com/Plant-Details/2162/
