Prunus glandulosa from Brittany in South Carolina

Posted on |

Seems to like the shade. Blooms in the early spring. It spreads and sends up new shoots that do not have flowers during the summer then dies back in the winter. I’d like to know if it is invasive.

Hi Brittany,

I think you are referring to the very pale pink to white flowering shrub. This is Prunus glandulosa, the flowering almond.  It is an old-fashioned garden plant and it is not considered to be invasive. If you are referring to something else in the picture, let me know.

I apologize for the delay in my reply. I had software issues that only now have been fixed. Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
