Polygala lutea from Mary, SC

Posted on |

Is this a relative of the flamenco, grown in dry, sandy soil?

Hi Mary,

I don’t know what the flamenco is, other than a Spanish dance, but this is Polygala lutea, sometimes called yellow gay-wings, or yellow milkwort.  It is actually usually in the coastal plain in boggy soil, or at least the soil is wet part of the year.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
