I keep finding new tree species in my backs wooded area. Twisty. Soft needles. Virginia pine?
Hi Joanne,
I think you are correct – Virginia pine, Pinus virginiana, has needles in twos which are twisted and which are generally between 2 and 6 cm long. I don’t know where you live, but this is quite common in the Upstate. If you are on the Coastal Plain I’d need to guess again! This is also often called scrub pine.
