A Pinellia from Barbara in SC

Growing in a moist urban woods in Greenville SC

Hi Barbara,

this plant is a relative of the Jack-in-the-pulpit, and is called Pinellia tripartita. While it has been called voodoo lily and green dragon, those are names better reserved for other plants, not this one.  It is introduced in our area, and may be starting to spread in the Upstate.  It is also a nice garden plant. Its plant family is the Araceae.

I hope this helps.  See: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/8257/ for more information.

Note for all: By the way, I do not know how to rotate images on this website.  If you can submit them right-side up, this will help in the future.

Sincerely,

Steve Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
