Physalis from Virginia in SC

Posted on |

I first found this plant in our somewhat shady yard several years ago. An Internet search made me think it was Physalis cinerascens. I looked again today to see if I still thought so, and wasn’t sure.

Thanks,
Virginia

PS A seedling I asked about earlier this year turned out to be an Agastache foeniculum reappearing after a 2-year absence.

Hi Virginia,

it is certainly a Physalis, and it could be Physalis cinerascens, though that is not so common in South Carolina.  See also Physalis viscosa.  These are somewhat difficult without examining the flowers and stem hairs carefully.

Sincerely,
