Lysimachia lanceolata from DianeP, SC

Hi, Dr. Hill,
This yellow-flowering plant with slender, long leaves on the main body and round basal leaves is growing in the fall line in sandy soil on a slope in mostly full sun at the edge of a mixed loblolly pine + white oak woods. I photographed it on May 22. Thank you in advance.
Diane

Hi Diane,

this is a Lysimachia, a loosestrife. If the leaves have a long cuneate base with petioles less than 1 cm long, it is Lysimachia lanceolata.  That is my guess.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
