Lyre-leaved Sage from Deborah, South Carolina

these plants started popping up in the ditch by my fence after a few good heavy rains,,,It reminded me of salvia or skullcap, but the leaves are shaped more like a dandelion and variegated burgandy and green. Im at a loss

 

Hi Deborah,

your plant is Salvia lyrata, the lyre-leaved sage, in the mint family.  It is a native plant, and tends to come up in areas that are somewhat disturbed.  It is normally not considered to be invasive, and is a good bee plant.
