Hedychium coronarium from Jackie , SC

Posted on |

This white flower is at the top of a 3 to 4 ft tall corn like stalk. Growing is part shade, moist soil.

Hi Jackie,

this is a wonderful semi-tropical flower called Hedychium coronarium, the white butterfly ginger. The fragrance is superb, and much like that of jasmine or gardenia. It is native to the eastern Himalayas and it is also the National Flower of Cuba. One of my favorite fragrances!

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
