Fatoua villosa from Traci Greve

Posted on |

This keeps growing in many of my Greer, SC greenhouse plants as a weed. My tortoises seem to especially like it however so I would like to know what it is to make sure it is a healty part of their diet.

Thanks!

Hi Traci,

I have this same weed. It is called Mulberry weed, Fatoua villosa. It is an annual but spreads easily. Check the internet, but, as far as I know, it is harmless to wildlife. I just keep pulling it up and eventually it disappears.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
