Euonymus americanus from Cathy SC

I saw this flower while walking on a shady trail in Paris Mountain State Park, North of Greenville, SC on Monday, October 11th. It was a little windy so the image is a little blurry. I hope you can identify. I’ve never seen this before

Hi Cathy,

what you were looking at actually are the fruits, not flowers, of Euonymus americanus, the Strawberry bush, and the fruits are often called Hearts’a-busting-with-love, a cute name.  They are rather common in the upstate.

Sincerely,

Dr, Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
