Euonymus americanus from Annette

Posted on |

Wild plant develops Pinkish / Purple pods that produce red / orange seeds. Growing a]directly adjacent to a tree in the shade and is not being irrigated except by rain. This appears to be the only specimen in our yard.

Hi Annette,

these are the fruits of the native shrub locally called Hearts–bustin-with-love, Euonymus americanus. It is rather common in the Carolinas, especially in the Upstate.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
