Cuscuta glomerata from Liz in SC

Found this odd plant growing on what I believe to be a Virginia Creeper vine. I tried to identify with books I had, plant apps & searching on the web.
Found at Hagley boat landing at the end of Hagley Road, Pawleys Island. Pictures are from 9/17/2022 & 9/28/2022

Hi Liz,

this is a parasitic vine known as dodder, more specifically, Cuscuta glomerata, the rope dodder. These are parasitic relatives of morning glory vines.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
