Crotalaria spectabilis? from Blake-South Carolina

Posted on |

An individual from Mexico opened the seed pod of this 2-3′ plant and swallowed seeds. Said his family took them for kidney function..Near Lake Murray in woodland area. Can’t find any info.. Thank you

Hi Blake,

this is a Crotalaria, but leaves are needed for a positive identification.  If there was only one leaflet per leaf it would most likely be Crotalaria spectabilis. That is used occasionally as a medicinal plant.  Try this site: http://tropical.theferns.info/viewtropical.php?id=Crotalaria+spectabilis
