Coreopsis from Owen in GA

Took a picture of this plant at Watson Mill State Park in Ga. Was curious what it was.

Hi Owen,

your flower is a Coreopsis, in the daisy family [Asteraceae], but I cannot be certain of the species without images of the stem and leaves.  This is because there are as many as 15 possibilities, yet the flower heads look remarkably similar in all of them.  The leaves in your picture are not from this plant, they sort of look like a Croton or something similar.  Some coreopsis are cultivated, but most are wildflowers.  I’m sorry I cannot ID this one to species at this time.  Sincerely,  Steve Hill
