Cajanus cajan from San in SC

Posted on |

Went out for a two month long business trip, and to my surprise this guy sprouted out near my Spanish Lavenders (light shading from fencing). Really curious if it is something worth keeping or if it is something invasive. Haven’t seen anything similar in the immediate area.

Hi San,

this looks to me like Cajanus cajan, the pigeon pea, commonly grown in the tropics for food.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
