A bottle gentian from David Lowe

Posted on |

I saw a flowering plant when I was in a boat and no one has identified the plant yet. The location was Clemson SC. at the edge of the water sometime in the summer.

David,

this is most likely Gentiana saponaria – one of the bottle gentians.  It is occasional to fairly common along forest streams in the Oconee – Pickens county areas.

Sincerely,

Steven Hill, Botanist, SCNPS
