Any idea which species of Asclepias this may be? It’s in Oconee Co. SC
Michael, this could be one of two possible species – and I need pictures of the leaves to be sure of which one. Asclepias amplexicaulis, the most likely choice, has leaves that have no noticeable petioles and they also tend to ‘hug’ the stem and each other. The other, Asclepias exaltata, has leaves that narrow toward the base and have a small petiole, and do not ‘hug’ the stem or each other in any way. Both have a flower cluster like this, though Asclepias exaltata usually has much paler flowers than in your image. — Steve Hill
